Food as art

Gohona bori

গহনা বড়ি

Gohona means jewellery. Soaked lentils are ground to a fine paste and piped by hand, in delicate lace-like patterns, onto a bed of poppy seeds, then dried in the sun until each piece can be lifted whole, like a brooch. It is one of the most beautiful, and most patient, food arts of Bengal.

At Turiyo you learn to make it yourself, alongside local artisans, the slow way it has always been made.

Heritage food

A ritual, not a routine.

Meals at Turiyo are cooked in the house and shared around communal tables: vegetables from our kitchen garden, fish from a century-old pond, and the freshest of village produce.

On the way

More heritage foods, coming to the table.

Gohona bori is only the beginning. Over time, our experience tours will open up more of Bengal’s heritage foods, starting with the pickles and preserves of Olonkar, our own label, crafted by tradition.

The art of doing nothing

No traffic, no city noise, no schedule to keep.
